Cullinan celebrates its talented local students

The Cullinan diamond mine (“CDM”) in South Africa celebrated the accomplishments of its top student achievers at the 2020 Matric Awards Gauteng North District, which was held on 30 January 2020 at the Sinanhlanhla Primary School, Bronkhorspruit.

CDM strives to make a real contribution to the people of its surrounding communities through various initiatives, including its long-standing partnership with the Department of Education.  Apart from investing in scholarships and bursaries, Cullinan also donated five laptops and forty five textbook vouchers to enable and assist the top achievers of the 2020 Matric Awards Gauteng North District in their further studies.

CDM was very proud to see two of its scholarship students from the Chipa Tabane School walking away with top honours, including Chikonde Maisela who received the award as Dux Scholar for the Gauteng North District 2019 with an overall percentage of 90.4% and seven distinctions.

In March 2021, CDM hosted ten pupils from the City of Tshwane Municipality Region 5 and Region 7 to a ‘Welcoming Function’ on mine in celebration of being rewarded a full scholarship from CDM. The Petra Scholarship will cover expenses for the 2021 academic year, such as school fees; the school uniform; stationary; educational tours; and the student’s prescribed textbooks.

During the function, the CDM Human Resource Development team also bid farewell to the three post-grade 12 pupils from Mpumelelo Secondary School and Ekangala Comprehensive High School who had all achieved a number of distinctions in their studies.
